Donor Eggs

If a couple cannot produce good quality embryos or no embryos at all, they may consider using donor eggs. Donor eggs -- and sometimes donor embryos -- allow an infertile woman to carry a child in her uterus and give birth. You might be a candidate for donor eggs if you have any of these conditions:

  • Early on-set menopause, typically before age 40  (called Premature Ovarian Failure, POF)
  • Poor quality eggs
  • Genetically transmitted diseases that could be passed on to your child
  • A history of repetitive IVF failure

Most egg donation is anonymous, but some couples prefer to know and recruit  their egg donor.

Egg donors are screened for genetic history, health factors, certain infectious diseases.  This screening process is prescribed by FDA and regulated by law, therefore it is mandatory.
